Resolutions

Happy New Year everyone!

Lori and I have our life back to normal after arriving this morning from a whirlwind tour of North America with stops in Winnipeg, Sioux Falls, Minneapolis, and Green Bay (Go Pack!). It's good to be home. The weather here in Switzerland could not be nicer with temps around 7C/45F degrees with the sun shining on beautiful snow-capped mountains. The holidays were fun but hectic and it was great seeing family, friends and another epic victory at Lambeau.

2012 is now here and so is the time for resolutions. I have never made a New Years resolution in the past, and I don't plan on starting now, but do want to share with you what I now claim to have been my resolution for last year.

Growing up I had never been that big of a reader. I have always had a book by my nightstand but before moving to Argentina I doubt I ever read more than a book a month. Over the last few years my book intake has risen substantially. I originally thought that maybe it was due to the number of queues I would find myself waiting in during our time in Argentina. However I have found that my reading has actually increased here in the punctual country of Switzerland. In fact, halfway through 2011 I made an interesting discovery: I was on track to read a book a week. Seeing as I already had a head start, the goal of 52 books in 52 weeks immediately became my resolution. And I'm proud to say that on Dec 29th, I achieved that goal by finishing Tolkien's The Hobbit.

Some fun stats:

Total Books

Total Pages

Average number of pages: 339
Average number of pages per day: 48.3
Longest book: 1072 pages (Under the Dome - Stephen King)
Shortest book: 127 pages (UR - Stephen King)
My favorite reads of the year: The Corrections (J Franzen) and Cloud Atlas (D Mitchell)
Number of books read on the Kindle: 51 (only Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises was read the old-fashioned way)

Check out the bookshelf widget on the left side of this page to see the most recent books read. Or view my profile on Good Reads* to see all activity.

So far for 2012 I have set no goals, no resolutions. However, if I'm close to something worth shooting for towards the other half of the year, I'll let you know how I did in 2013.
