Jägihorn

This weekend I got a chance to escape for a couple of days to do some climbing. I was invited to attempt my first multi-pitch route. A group of climbers from our gym were heading to summit Jägihorn and I decided to join them.

Jägihorn, 3206m

Jägihorn is a well-known summit in the Valais region of Switzerland. Some believe it has one of the best kletterstiegs in Switzerland. There are three sport routes up Jägihorn, and for our climb, we chose 'Panarama', the more difficult of the three, though technically, not terribly challenging maxing out a French 5b. What was challenging, however, was the 10-13 pitches necessary for making the summit. I say 10-13 because I honestly lost count plus feel that there were a couple of short traversal pitches that probably shouldn't count anyway.

It ended up taking almost 5 and a half hours to complete the summit at our leisurely pace. We didn't stop, but we didn't rush it either. The last 3 pitches really tested my stamina and mental capacity after spending 10 minutes or so trying to locate the route I was suppose to lead.

I learned a lot about climbing with some very talented folks and am excited to get out and do more multi-pitch stuff in the future. Next time Lori will join me, but maybe we'll start with 3 or 4 pitches instead.
