Happy Canada Day everyone!
I wanted to get a post out before the weekend and since I'm throwing this blog together during my lunch break, I'll keep it short.
Lori, My Friend Lisa, and I spent last weekend in beautiful Provence, France. Though we had a great time touring the country-side, enjoying the vistas of rolling hills, castles, and fields of lavender, the highlight of the trip (like most) was the food.
The markets of France are known as being some of the best of the world. Heck, it's the primary reason Julia Childs fell in love. Provence is insane about their open-air markets, where every town, regardless of size, has their day in the weekly spotlight. We stayed in an apartment in the perfect little village of Lourmarin, who host market Friday mornings. Here are some highlights:
And you can't visit a French market without laying down a little cash. We ended up picking up an impressive array of fresh food which served as our lunch for the next couple days.
From left to right: figs, peaches, nectarines, duck and bull sausage, anchovies, tapenade, cashews, local red wine, olives, cheeses, baguette, and fresh macarons for desert. Amazing!
A few days later, inspired by the food of markets, Lori and My Friend Lisa took it upon themselves to attempt to best the delectables sampled in France. They came up with this plate of goodness.
Enjoy!
